Muscle strains are also known as a pulled muscle. When the muscles in the lower back are strained or torn, the area around the muscles can become inflamed. With inflammation, the muscles can spasm leading to severe low back pain and difficulty moving. Lower back pain from a muscle strain occurs most frequently after lifting a heavy object, lifting while twisting, or a sudden movement or fall. The pain is usually localized, meaning it doesn’t radiate to the leg. The area may be sore to the touch, the patient usually feels better when resting.

Joint or Muscle pain can be excruciating and debilitating. Whether the pain is in your neck or foot, it can make day to day life difficult. Things we do that we take for granted become a struggle.

If you are currently experiencing pain in a joint or muscle that you want to be rid of then chiropractic treatment may be the answer to your problem.

While there is a common misconception that “chiropractors only treat backs”, our chiropractors diagnose and treat other joint and muscle problems.

Common Muscle Pain causes

Muscles are controlled by the nerves. Chiropractors are nerve specialists. Chiropractors can identify faltering nerve flow which leads muscles to “act out” or fail to function properly, leading to pain and spasms.

Some of the more common joint & muscle-related problems people come to the clinic with include:

  • Neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Shoulder pain including frozen shoulder
  • Oste-Arthritis
  • Knee pain
  • Elbow pain including tennis elbow
  • Tension
  • Muscle spasm and cramps
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Trapped Nerves

Some of the most common causes of back pain our chiropractors deal with are:

  • Repetitive movements
  • Wear and tear
  • Overuse
  • Sporting injury
  • Being overweight
  • Stress
  • Poor posture when sitting, sleeping or standing
  • Falls or trauma

There are a variety of causes that can lead to muscle spasms. One of the most common is prolonged or excessive exercise. When you exercise too often or for very long periods of time, your muscles do not have a chance to relax and as a result, muscle spasms can occur. Muscle spasms can also occur from dehydration, an injury or some type of trauma to the muscle. Muscle spasms can also be symptoms of neuromuscular diseases like multiple sclerosis or MS.

Joint manipulation is the most common treatment that chiropractors use. Most often they manipulate your spine, but they can also be trained to manipulate joints in other areas. Manipulation allows your spine and joints to restore normal motion which in turn leads to reduced pain and a decrease in muscle spasms.
